The Ontario bureau of The Canadian Press is looking for an experienced, dedicated and passionate journalist who is able to cover a variety of assignments with speed, accuracy and flair. The successful candidate will also be expected to regularly contribute original ideas that will help drive the news agenda.

General Responsibilities

  • Write, edit and gather multimedia content for CP’s various services (print, online, broadcast and video).
  • Deliver exclusive and enterprise material on a regular basis.
  • Report breaking news using all platforms, including social media.
  • Use a variety of sources, including access to information and social media, to find and report stories of provincial and national interest.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to share tips, confirm rumours and develop context for news.
  • Build a strong network of reliable news contacts.
  • Occasional shift work required, including evenings and weekends.
  • Occasional travel.
  • Requirements

  • At least five years of solid experience in a real-time, digital newsroom.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Solid news judgment.
  • Experience using different news platforms, including broadcast, video and multimedia.
  • Ability to work under extreme deadline pressures.
  • Proven ability to break news.
  • Proven experience in developing and executing original ideas
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team.
  • Ability to edit and improve colleagues’ work on short notice.
  • Bilingual preferred.
